SUMMARY:Manga Research and Reading Network (in NYC)
DESCRIPTION:The Manga/Comics Reading and Research Network (MaRRN) in New York welcomes everyone to discuss manga from diverse perspectives\, including artists\, fans\, scholars\, researchers\, educators\, editors\, publishers\, translators\, etc. \nThe primary mission of MaRRN is to develop a network among individuals and groups who engage with manga/comics to deepen the knowledge of the medium\, industry\, and culture surrounding it. Join us for MaRRN’s fifth meeting\, featuring Hidemi Shiraki from Kodansha (Japan). Shiraki is an editor for Weekly Young Magazine\, one of the most popular seinen manga magazines in Japan. It’s a rare opportunity to meet and have a conversation with a Japanese manga editor. What is it like to work as an editor in the competitive manga industry? Why is he here in NYC? How did manga-ka (manga artists) debut? What kind of abilities and experiences are necessary to be a good manga editor?  What kind of processes are done for a manga episode to be published in a weekly manga magazine? Find out all the answers at this upcoming MaRRN event! \nThis meeting has a special format\, starting with a casual chat among participants at the beginning over food and drinks from 6:30 pm then moving to a mini-talk and conversation with Hidemi Shiraki\, moderated by Professor CJ Suzuki. Shiraki is also curious to know the interests and experiences of reading manga in America and has prepared a set of questions for the participants as well. \n**Please take note that we will be holding the event at RESOBOX Long Island City (41-26 27th Street\, Long Island City\, NY 11101) NOT our East Village location.** \nAbout the Special Guest\n\n\n\n\n\nHidemi Shiraki\n\nHidemi Shiraki\, the editor of Weekly Young Magazine (Kodansha\, Japan).
