It is undoubtedly sushi\, but the appearance and design of each roll are filled with endless possibilities! A Kazari Maki-Zushi’s design can be anything – flowers\, fruit\, animals\, words and even logos! Whatever your creativeness allows\, Kazari Maki-Zushi can be almost anything. Using various natural colors of ingredients you see every day\, Kazari Maki-Zushi is a fun way to play around with sushi designs. This food/art form has been developed for over 150 years\, and still\, new ideas are created everyday in Japan. And it’s even a great way to show off your artistic skills at parties or potlucks! \nAlthough it looks difficult\, this decorative sushi is very simple and easy to make! No prior experience is necessary as it involves a different process than creating regular sushi. Making Kazari Maki-Zushi is much like building with Legos\, where each piece is stacked to make a picture!  \nKazari Maki-Sushi represents an important unique aspect in Japanese food –  not only in taste\, but also in the beautiful visual appearance that serves to please those who enjoy it. Making Kazari Maki-Zushi is also a great way to enjoy company\, whether it be friends or family and is especially popular with kids! Even if your homemade Kazari Maki-Zushi isn’t well-prepared\, the process of making and seeing your finished pieces on the dining table creates joy for all who see (and eat!) it. \nFor more workshops in this series\, visit our Japanese Cooking Workshop page.

SUMMARY:What is Natural Sake? Learn Japanese Fermentation Culture from Sake Brewery "Terada Honke!"
DESCRIPTION:What is Natural Sake? Learn Japanese Fermentation Culture from Sake Brewery “Terada Honke!”\n\nTerada Honke is a 340-year-old sake brewery situated in Chiba Prefecture\, approximately 54 miles northeast of Tokyo. Their sake is naturally brewed using pesticide- and herbicide-free organic rice with absolutely zero additives. Even the micro-organisms\, the key ingredients for fermentation\, are organically grown within the walls of their age-old brewery as opposed to the so-called ‘pure culture’ technique\, a lab-style cultivation of microorganisms. \nAt Terada Honke\, nature’s blessings are harmoniously blended in their delicate sake. Recognized as one of the finest ‘organic sake’ in Japan and worldwide\, our customers embody diverse cultures. SUMMARY:ORINIGIRI Workshop 1: A Combination of Origami and Onigiri
DESCRIPTION:Have you heard of “ORINIGIRI?” \nORINIGIRI is a new type of art (and way of eating!) that combines the fun features of “Origami” and “Onigiri (Rice balls).” Tomoo Nitta\, a first-class Japanese qualified architect\, invented ORINIGIRI when he was in the process of designing a building. He discovered that ORINIGIRI was a fun way to help children (recommended for ages 4 and up) cultivate their mathematical and artistic senses. This workshop will show both children and adults how to create their own ORINIGIRI while having fun with a special ORINIGIRI dance. We hope to not only teach people about ORINIGIRI but also to have them become interested and help spread ORINIGIRI in their own way. Becoming a member of our family has no obligation or fee but is a great way to express yourself through ORINIGIRI as an interesting and fun new art form! \n \nDon’t miss out on this exciting and creative ORINIGIRI-making and informative session! All ingredients and supplies will be prepared by the organizer. If you would like to change the flavor of your ORINIGIRI\, please feel free to bring your own favorite onigiri ingredients. \nLearn more about ORINIGIRI by watching the video below!

SUMMARY:Brewing the Best Cup of Japanese Tea: Learning the Techniques to a T
DESCRIPTION:RESOBOX is collaborating with Japan Tea Export Council and World Green Tea Association to bring to you a new Japanese tea experience! Japanese tea specialists by Japan Tea Export Council will hold an informative seminar as well as prepare a cup of authentic Japanese tea (Sencha) for visitors. We promise that the taste of Japanese tea prepared in the most careful and intricate way will blow you away. You’ll experience a whole different taste of green tea that you’ve never tried before. Don’t miss this amazing chance to discover a new kind of green tea! \nAbout Japan Tea Export Council / World Green Tea Association\nJapan Tea Export Council was founded with the main objective of encouraging the export of Japanese tea and to support the tea industry. In order to do so\, there is a need to promote suitable exporting regions and to grasp the conditions and requirements of the destination countries as well as any counter measures that might be needed. It is also necessary to arrange seminars and to use PR to create a good base for the spread of Japanese tea. \nIn order to create a favorable environment for exports as an organization\, we aim to further develop the structure behind the production of tea for export\, and to continue the work for many years to come. \n \nAbout The Seminar\nHow to Make The Most of Japanese Tea\nIn this part of the seminar\, we will focus on the enjoyment involved in drinking and preparing Japanese green tea. Although we have seen an increase in the consumption of green tea in the West in the last couple of years\, most consumers still consider it mainly a health promoting beverage. Perhaps as a consequence of this\, the more enjoyable aspects of Japanese tea are often overlooked or forgotten. This is unfortunate because Japanese leaf tea is a unique taste experience which offers a wide variation depending on factors such as the cultivar of the tea plant\, the manufacturing method and the terroir. \nFor beginners\, brewing Japanese tea can of course appear to be slightly difficult. Over steeping or using excessively hot water tend to make the tea bitter and less palatable than it should be. However\, once you grasp the basic points it is fairly easy to adjust the taste and flavor to your own preference\, or to the preference of your guest if you are brewing tea for someone else. To make everyone able to enjoy Japanese tea like this to its fullest\, we will not only explain the logic behind brewing Japanese tea\, but you will also get a chance to try unique and rare tea that are hard to find outside Japan. \nKentaro Ishibe\, a notable tea specialist and tea critic that stands out as a pioneer in the field of single origin Japanese tea\, and Oscar Brekell\, one of few non-Japanese Nihoncha (Japanese tea) Instructors will provide you not only with useful knowledge but also give you a glimpse of the latest trends in Japanese leaf tea. Make sure not to miss this rare opportunity to improve your brewing skills and to gain knowledge of everything from Japanese tea cultivars to production methods and tea cultivation. \nExperience Japanese Tea Ceremony – Exploring Matcha\nDiscover “The Simplest Way of Tea” and the basics of preparing a Japanese tea ceremony done at home. Guests will experience the spirit of tea culture and the art of Japanese tea ceremony with tea ceremony instructor Ako Yoshino. Only the finest Matcha will be prepared\, with matching wagashi (Japanese sweets). Yoshino will explain a few essential teachings and stories from her books\, “The Book of Zen Tea” and “The Simplest Way of Tea Ceremony”. \nIn addition\, knowing the history of Matcha also leads to knowing Japanese culture. Yoshino will introduce about the history\, cultivation\, manufacturing\, and culture on the characteristics of Japanese “Matcha” which was discovered and made by integrating Japanese climate and the national character of Japan.

These Kazari Maki-Zushi (sushi with special designs and decorations) are not only delicious to eat\, but also cute and fun to make! We’ll be creating two kinds of holiday sushi for this class with natural ingredients (as listed below) that taste great\, just like regular sushi! By manipulating the natural colors of each ingredient\, you can design an interesting and delicious sushi piece. The cute designs on these holiday sushi can be made easily\, so no sushi-making experience is required and it’s a good way to impress your friends at upcoming holiday parties. \nIngredients\nSanta Sushi \n\nSushi rice (rice vinegar\, sugar\, salt)\n\nSeaweed\n\n\nSeaweed powder\n\n\nBeets\n\n\nCarrots\n\n\nSeafood sausage\n\n\nCheese sticks\n\n\nMountain gobo (burdock root)\n\nNori\n\nSnowman Sushi \n\nSushi rice (rice vinegar\, sugar\, salt)\nBeets\nBaked Egg\nNori\nKanikama (crab sticks)\n\n \nWhat is Kazari Maki-Zushi?\nKazari Maki-Zushi is a patterned or decorative sushi that is derived from the several sushi techniques such as Saiku sushi and Futomaki sushi.
