SUMMARY:Superior Woodcrafts from Akita\, Japan: Magewappa\, Beer Cups\, Sake Cups
DESCRIPTION:By Shunji Kurimori & Hiroyuki Hashino \nThe traditional crafts from Akita introduced at this exhibition demonstrate the wealth of natural resources Japan\, the long-established methods of the area’s craftsmanship\, and the relationship between humanity and nature. As “crafts with local flavor” that incorporate all the region’s qualities\, or as traditional tools that still prove useful today\, they integrate easily into one’s lifestyle. In their pursuit of beauty and functionality\, two artisans craft works of austere elegance and careful design that are made for utility. \nThis exhibition of traditional and modern crafts from Akita features two renowned Masters\, Shunji Kurimori & Hiroyuki Hashino. Their works have been displayed at major national and international venues and have received prestigious design awards. \nMage-wappa is a traditional craft that originated in Akita Prefecture. It involves bending strips of Japanese cedar wood to make food vessels and other household items. Using straight grain Akita Cedar\, Mage-wappa art craft was first developed in the beginning of the 17th Century. Its first form took the shape of a lunch box made by a woodcutter in the Odate area of Northern Japan. The Lord of Odate Castle then encouraged the technique in a samurai’s work and it grew in popularity. In recent years the craft has been used as a base for the development of new techniques and modern design. Popular for its straight grain and light weight\, the Akita Cedar used in these products is more than 250 years old. \nShunji Kurimori is a mage-wappa artisan with 46 years of experience and an 18 times winner of the Good Design Award\, and an officially recognized Contemporary Master Craftsman. Committed to using traditional craftsmanship to meet the needs of today\, Kurimori has come up with several groundbreaking mage-wappa designs\, including tapered cups and nesting food containers. A true innovator\, he is driving the evolution of his craft. \nHashino’s unique and innovative designs are crafted from a rare hardwood tree whose wood has a very beautiful grain and texture. In Japanese this tree\, a member of the Birch family\, is called “Onoore Kanba”\, which means “breaking the hatchet birch”. Hashino’s products are made with careful consideration for their materials\, shape and function produce a more beautiful and timeless result. \nHiroyuki Hashino often travels to the United States to introduce his products internationally. In 2012\, he featured his products at Cherry Blossom Festival at Sakura Park\, and also exhibited at American Craft Show in New York. In 2013\, he received the Good Design Award.  Hashino received the Gold Awards Omotenashi Selection 2016\, 2017 and 2018. More than 30 years ago\, Hashino produced his first wooden shoehorn and has been making these beautiful wooden tools with long\, smooth carves ever since. In 2005\, The Imperial Household Agency brought one of this signature pieces for the Emperor of Japan. Since then\, three more sets of Hashino’s shoehorns have also been stocked at the prestigious Nara Hotel\, where the Emperor regularly stays. \nThe exhibited works will include daily commodities; Hashino’s shoehorn introduced by the Imperial Household Agency to the Emperor and his twisted combs that he received the Gold Award Omotenashi Selection 2016 for\, Kurimori’s female lunch boxes that he received the Good Design Award for and his sake bottles and cups he received the Long Life Design Award for\, etc.

SUMMARY:YO no BI (用の美)
DESCRIPTION:Tomoharu Okamura solo exhibition\nCurated by Yuki Ideguchi\nTomoharu Okamura’s work focuses on the addictiveness that light-emitting objects possess. \nHe creates his works based on the idea that people are attracted towards a strong light source\, and that they congregate around various phenomena the light generates. \nJust as bright light that reaches your synapsis could cause a lasting effect on your vision\, tremendously strong light could create addiction but he also believes\, as various types of light brighten the dark places in the world every day\, light has the primordial power to give people a feeling of peace and compassion. \nThings in our daily life that emit or reflect light are of particular interest to Tomoharu. \nLight of course comes in many shapes and forms such as sunlight\, moon light and water glimmering seen naturally\, or street lights\, buildings\, glass and mirrors made artificially. These days\, however\, it is widely recognized that staring at things like TVs\, video games\, computers\, cellphone screens for extended periods can have a deep lasting effect on the body and mind. From prehistoric times\, humans have instinctually been afraid of the dark and have always sought for brightness and therefore our vision\, to this day\, is easily fascinated with self-emanating light sources. It is just normal for people to be mesmerized by light-emitting objects\, he believes. \nIn the present day\, we deal with light emitting objects longer than before and the accumulation of time spent in front of such objects deepens Tomoharu’s fascination towards light and drives him to express it on his canvas. \nTomoharu’s desire for light comes from the Japanese culture as well. In Japan\, gold leafed folding screens with paintings on them were created as light sources to light up the dark. You might think a gold leafed folding screen to be something of decadence but in reality\, it was used in slightly dark and quiet rooms inside wooden buildings and at night they were used to reflect the moonlight or candle light and diffuse it onto the interior of the dark room. Gold foils and white paper applied on the screens therefore had the effect similar to that of a reflector board used in movie sets. White paper base surface is often left intentionally as it is and this technique is called YOHAKU-NO-BI (the beauty of the blank space). With YOHAKU-NO-BI\, the blank spaces without any paint or ink applied offer a sense of the existence of ambience and humidity and this depiction of atmosphere that one cannot see is at the very heart of the essence of Japanese art. \nEnsuring that the surface makes good use of gold and silver foils and blanc white spaces to reflect light in dark rooms has been perceived essential in Japanese paintings even to this day. Tomoharu incorporates metal foils in his art pieces to reflect light to make it seem as if the pieces themselves are emitting light. He carefully chooses the use of paint and motifs to support this effect and the result is our desire stemming from the addictiveness of the light in which we get ourselves bathed every day\, and an opportunity for salvation evoked from this very desire\, all expressed using essential elements nurtured through the history of Japanese art. \nBy making the canvas to emit light\, his works strive to be NIHON-GA (Japanese paintings) that can light up our daily lives. The light that fills the surrounding space(s) carries within it a sense of purity and a certain presence of solemnity. Tomoharu’s works take on the role to provide a glimpse of hope that is universally significant even in this current-day world where we are all poisoned by light. \nNIHONGA involves traditional mineral pigments and/or dyes mixed with NIKAWA\, glue made of animal gelatin\, that are then kneaded with water to make the paint which can then be applied on the [WASHI = traditional Japanese paper] canvas. Tomoharu finds the process of making his art pieces essential so he uses a technique to places layer after layer of paint over each other. Under the multiple layers of his works\, at the deepest level of all\, lay the ideas and embodiment of Japan’s natural climate and ethnicity firmly rooted. \nHe also values the Japanese culture highly and creates works in traditional art forms such as KAKEJIKU in the hope of passing on the craft to the next generation. This view is also closely related to his suggestion of YO-NO-BI (beauty of use) that the beauty that comes out as a result of design evolution through constant pursuit for ultimate convenience offers a different kind of beauty compared to that of decorations designed with particular intensions. \nOpening Event\nThe opening reception will happen onWednesday\, October 3rd at RESOBOX Chelsea\, at 5:30pm featuring a musical performance by Sumire Hirotsuru and Eiko Kano on violins. \nThis music event is curated by Masatora Goya. \n\n6:00pm – Sumire Hirotsuru\n6:45pm – Eiko Kano\n\nGuest Curator\nYuki Ideguchi (born 1986) is an artist and curator. He does not only produce art works but also curates several exhibitions and has expanded his world. He received both a BFA (2011) and MFA (2013) in Japanese Painting from Tokyo University of the Arts. In his work\, he blends traditional Japanese techniques with contemporary imagery and themes. \nCuration\n2018　Evolving Traditions – Paintings of wonder from Japan\, Japan Information and Culture Center\, Washington DC\, USA\n2017　THE FICTIONAL SCENERY\, RESOBOX LIC \, NY\, USA\n2015 　-Jecoration- Decorative Expressions of Japanese Art and Their Influences\, J-collabo\, Brooklyn\, USA\n2013　Exhibition of The Drawings\, Minnano Gallery\, Tokyo\, Japan\n2012　The Drawing Exhibition “The View of Current and Old”\, Tokyo University of the Arts Museum\, Tokyo\, Japan\n

SUMMARY:Echos from Ancient Japan ~A tribute concert to a Courtly Poet of the 8th century 額田王 Princess Nukata~
DESCRIPTION:In the middle of the 8th century\, a collection of 10\,000 songs was compiled in Japan. Manyoshu (Ten Thousand Leaves) is unique because of the diverse background of the over 4500 poets\, ranging from noblemen to commoners. The most notable among them is Princess Nukata\, who was loved by two princes influential in founding ancient Japan known as Yamato. Through her gift for song writing\, she successfully lived through these turbulent times. This concert is a tribute to this remarkable female poet. It is also the US premiere of the music composed by Tomoki Jiromaru who will be present at the concert. \nProgram\n\nIntroduction to Manyoshu\nUmashi-Kuni (Beautiful Country) for solo piano\nTwo songs by Prince Shiki for clarinet and piano\nHaru-no-Sono (Spring Garden) for solo clarinet\nSong cycle “Inishie ni Kouramu Tori (The Bird Longs for the Past)” by Princess Nukata for mezzo Soprano and piano\n\nPerformers\nMika Shigematsu (Mezzo Soprano)\nTomoki Jiromaru (Composer\, Piano)\nMaiko Sasaki (Clarinet)\nJames Scanlon-Canegata (Lecturer) \n  \n\nうまし国万葉奏楽\n古に恋ふらむ鳥～額田王～\nイベント概要\n8世紀半ば頃、貴族から庶民によるものまで4500以上の歌が編纂された、世界でも類を見ない多様性を持つ歌集・万葉集。 \nプログラム\n\n万葉集について\nうまし国\n次郎丸智希 作曲\nピアノ・次郎丸智希\n志貴皇子の二つの歌\n次郎丸智希 作曲\n一『石走（いわばし）る』、二『むささび』\nクラリネット・佐々木麻衣子\nピアノ・次郎丸智希\n春の苑\n次郎丸智希 作曲\nクラリネット・佐々木麻衣子\n古（いにしへ）に恋ふらむ鳥 〜 額田王 〜\n脚本と作曲・次郎丸 智希\n歌・重松みか ピアノと語り・次郎丸 智希\n\n出演\n重松みか（メゾソプラノ）\n次郎丸 智希 （作曲、ピアノ、朗読）\n佐々木麻衣子（クラリネット）\nJames Scanlon-Canegata (講演：万葉集について) \n\nMan’yōshū Presentation\nby James Scanlon-Canegata \nThe Poetry and Music of the Man’yōshū: An Introduction to the World of Ancient Japanese Song \nThe Man’yōshū is one of the most celebrated poetry collections in Japan\, recording the compositions of thousands of poets across many generations spanning the Asuka and Nara periods. This esteemed collection is forever a part of the canon of Japanese and world literature\, but at the time when these poems were being composed\, they were in fact “songs” (uta 歌). These songs were composed and written as well as sung and performed to music\, hand percussion\, and chorus. The early Japanese poetic tradition was a living and dynamic art form hat stretched the bounds of literature and music. \nIn this short lecture\, I will give an introduction to Man’yōshū the poetry anthology and to the cultural world of the Man’yōshū collection. I will discuss how these songs were performed and what poetry/song may have meant to the people who practiced them\, particularly through the life and work of Princess Nukata.

SUMMARY:IMPRESSIONS TO REFLECTIONS: Painted Origami
DESCRIPTION:From the Artist – Talo Kawasaki\nFor most people\, folding origami usually conjures up memories of making flapping birds\, flowers or “fortune teller” action models. Even modern\, more sophisticated origami practices will involve mimesis\, or representational paper folding\, such as flora\, fauna and fantastical creatures. The results can be astonishingly realistic but they are still using only single- or dual-colored squares of paper\, although printed and patterned paper is also folded to very good effect. \nIn this exhibition\, I took further advantage of the paper itself as a representational medium beyond just folding it. In most instances each sheet of paper was pre-painted before folding and sometimes it was painted afterwards\, as well as being painted both before and after the folding. In addition\, the pieces for this installation are contextualized with other materials to add dissonance and social commentary but mostly to encourage you to be mindful of each piece individually\, pushing your perceptions and broadening the boundaries of this timeless craft. \nArtist Appreciation\nAll of the butterfly folds were designed by Michael LaFosse and Richard Alexander and their Origamido Studio. Kyohei Katsuta for Makoto Yamaguchi and Origami House in Japan created the Yellowtail fish model. Talo would like to sincerely thank them all for their generous support and permission to recreate their elegant designs for this exhibition.

SUMMARY:Lecture: Japanese Bizen Ceramics Red\, White and Black
DESCRIPTION:Bizen artist\, Mr. Hiroyuki Matsui from Hyogo prefecture will introduce a traditional Japanese pottery\, Bizen ceramics\, and its history. For more than 20 years\, Matsui has created many beautiful and powerful exhibitions around Japan and the Asia hemisphere. \nAbout Bizen Ceramics\nBizen Ceramics is a prestigious and traditional Japanese ceramic with a thousand year old history. As of yet\, it has not been introduced outside of Asia but Hiroyuki Matsui is gradually spreading the art around the world. \nBizen was developed during the Momoyama era (around 450 years ago) and has the highest reputation among ceramic collectors in Japan. Most of the works are burned in a huge kiln (50m in length\, 5m in width\, and around 2-3m in height). However\, these kilns were ruined due to the economy around 200 years ago. Now\, there are many individual small kilns that exist for Bizen but the quality of these works are not as great as it was years ago. Matsui is currently in charge of a 15-year long project reconstructing huge kilns for Bizen. Each burning period lasts several months to completely burn the works. In the normal cases of creating Bizen\, burning takes around 1-2 weeks but other ceramics in Japan are normally completed in 1-3 days. At one point\, a 85m kiln was burned for 107 days (24 hours a day) continuously.

SUMMARY:Amphibian
DESCRIPTION:Amphibian has been transformed from the artist\, Nung-Hsin Hu’s\, on-going performance SUSHI. To extend the idea of identity confusion into her current circumstances\, Nung-Hsin performed SUSHI in her working environment\, a museum\, wearing her regular working clothes while the space was closed to the public. The photographic and video documentation reveal the contradiction and affinity between the two roles as an artist and art administrator\, and the invisible creative contribution provided through the supporting admin role. \nThe Amphibian exhibition at RESOBOX will include stereoscope photographic installations\, one single channel video\, and site specific fake food installations that will also reflect the artist’s confusion of identity. \nAmphibian Artist Statement by Nung-Hsin Hu\nAmphibian is made possible by Queens Council on the Arts with public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council.

SUMMARY:Explore a New Sake Pairing: Cool Japanese Sake and Authentic Spanish Chorizo and Ham
DESCRIPTION:Have you ever tried chilled sake with chorizo and ham? This delicious pairing will surprise you! When buying Japanese sake\, we would all like to be able to make an informed choices. Sake is a remarkable beverage to pair with food and it is a lot more versatile than people think. Gone are the days when sake was only paired with sushi or other Japanese foods. A new wave of young\, innovative risk-takers are successfully pairing it more and more with non-Japanese cuisine. \nIn this event\, participants will get a taste of this new pairing\, sake with Spanish ham and chorizo. We’ll provide six types of different sake from Kikusui Shuzo\, whose taste and flavor are enhanced by cold temperature. Guests will also listen to a small lecture about these labels. Our chorizo and ham are provided by Despaña\, a unique Spanish company based in NY. Come join us and explore this new and exciting taste profile!! \nOur Sake List\n\n\n\n\n\nFunaguchi Kikusui Nama Genshu\nJapan’s first Nama-Sake\, created over 40 years ago\, sparking the Nama-Sake boom. Being un-pasteurized and undiluted allows you to enjoy the fruity aroma and fresh full bodied flavor of this Sake\, and being 19% alcohol it’s a high-impact sensory experience. Because of the delicate nature of un-pasteurized Sake this product is sold in a can to shield it from the light. \n\n\n\n\n\nKikusui Junmai Ginjo\nThis Junmai Ginjo has a rich aroma with refreshing Mandarin orange like overtones that leads you through with a medium body to a clean dry finish. The relaxing instantly recognizable bottle and label design brighten any setting. \n\n\n\n\n\nKikusui Perfect Snow\nThis Nigori Sake has a full-bodied dynamic taste with a crisp clean finish. With more versatility than your normal Nigori Sake at 21% alcohol\, it opens up a range of new drinking possibilities. You can enjoy it straight\, on the rocks or mixed into your favorite cocktail for a more fun drinking experience.\n\n\n\nOur Chorizo and Ham List\n\n\n\n\n\nDespaña Cantimpalo Chorizon\nCantimpalo is typical of the regions of Salamanca\, Segovia\, and Valladolid. Made using thickly ground pork meat\, it’s the sweet pimentón de La Vera that gives the Cantimpalo its intense bright red color. A simple\, yet delicious\, way to serve this chorizo is to slice it thinly and accompany it with bread or cheese. This meat would also be perfect for a bocadillo or served with crusty\, fresh rustic bread!\n\n\n\n\nJamondor Serrano Ham Pre-Sliced\nJamón Serrano is one of the pillars of Spanish gastronomy and culture. Serrano ham is a type of dry-cured jamón\, which comes from a breed of white pig. Jamondor’s pre-sliced jamón is ready for you enjoy: whether it’s as part of a bocadillo or with crusty bread\, served with melon\, or just on its own\, you will love this serrano ham\n\n\n\n\nDespaña Salchichón\nReady to be sliced and eaten\, the primary difference between chorizo and salchichón is that salchichón uses no pimentón de La Vera. Their Despaña Brand salchichón does have small peppercorns and give this meat a delightful peppery taste. Their salchichón is very savory and perfect on its own as charcuterie\, with a glass of Manzanilla sherry\, or as part of a bocadillo or sandwich

SUMMARY:Sake for the Summer: Experience Chilled Sake
DESCRIPTION:Explore a new way of drinking sake! \nIn this exhibition\, we will show you one of the best ways to drink sake properly on sweltering hot days. One of the most beguiling and engaging aspects of sake is its ability to be enjoyed over a wide range of temperatures. One of our purposes in this exhibition is to have you try each sake at its recommended temperature ranges. Different temperatures suit different sake and we encourage you to taste each of them at a cool temperature at this exhibition. We will exhibit six kinds of sake each of which have strong features and flavors and are best drunk cold. \nSake that is served cold will generally taste drier\, fruitier and with a lighter flavor. These sake will be available for tasting at the very reasonable price of $3-4 for mini glasses or O-choko\, which are Japanese traditional sake cups. \nWe will be serving the sake in the three ways below: \n\nReishu (sake served chilled)\n\nOn the Rocks\nSherbet\n\nThis will be a great means for enhancing your knowledge of sake and learning which one is your favorite. We encourage you to experiment with all the different sake! \nIn addition\, during this exhibition\, we will hold a sake event in which attendees can explore a new pairing of three different sake with authentic Spanish Ham products. Attendees will also listen to a small sake lecture from Kikusui Shuzo. Please click here for more info! We’re looking forward to seeing you there! \nOur Sake List\nPlease click company names (in red) to see their websites. \n\n\n\n \n\nHiro Sake \n\nHiro Blue Sake Junmai Ginjo\nHIRO Sake is a Multi-Award Wining Handcrafted Premium Japanese Sake brewed and bottled in the Niigata Prefecture\, the premier Sake producing region in Japan. HIRO BLUE  has been specially handcrafted by their own Toji (master brewer) to be enjoyed either chilled or on the rocks and can also be used in your favorite cocktail in place of Vodka\, Gin or White Rum.\n\n\n \n\nKikusui\nFunaguchi Kikusui Nama Genshu Honjozo\nJapan’s first Nama-Sake\, created over 40 years ago\, sparking the Nama-Sake boom. Being un-pasteurized and undiluted allows you to enjoy the fruity aroma and fresh full bodied flavor of this Sake\, and being 19% alcohol it’s a high-impact sensory experience. Because of the delicate nature of un-pasteurized Sake this product is sold in a can to shield it from the light.\n\n\n \n\nKitaya\nSouden Tokubetsu Junmai\nProduced using exceptional yamada-nishiki sake rice locally cultivated in Fukuoka and applying the yamahai method\, low temperature fermentation over the course of 2 months. \nThis unique combination results in a fruit-forward and elevated acidity profile that complements meat-centric and richly flavored cuisine.\n\n\n \n\nKoshi No Iso\n\nMuroka Genshu Junmai Ginjo\nSake of the muroka genshu variety (non-charcoal filtered\, cask-strength) is typically only available to brewery staff. This muroka genshu made from Koshi No Shizuku\, a crossbreed of Hyogo Kita Nishiki and Miyama Nishiki sake rice is rich and full-bodied. Because it is non-charcoal filtered\, it is naturally lightly hued. Pairs well with hearty cuisine.\n\n\n \n\nAsahi Shuzo\nDassai 50 Junmai Dai Ginjo\n“Rather than sake that will get someone drunk\, or sake that will sell the most\, Asahishuzo’s aim is to create sake for tasting – to brew sake that is truly delicious and enjoyable for all. Their brand Dassai is the personification of this philosophy. \nWe must note\, however\, that they have no intention of brewing elusive phantom sake that doesn’t sell. This brewery makes some of the most popular and universally relatable sake in the world today.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMiyake Honten\nSempuku Shinriki Muroka Genshu\nSempuku-no-kura\, “Brewery of a Thousand Fortunes\,” founded in 1856 was destroyed during the bombing campaigns of WWII; at the close of the war\, only two structural walls remained standing of the dozen or structures that comprised the brewery and its adjoining residence.  By late 1946\, the brewery was rebuilt and resumed production.  Miyake Honten’s brewing ethos is to cultivate strong koji (aspergillus oryzae) and achieve a umami-filled yeast fermentation; while ever-seeking the ultimate balance between umami\, acidity\, and food-friendliness.\n\n\n\nAdjacent to sake exhibition\, we are exhibiting several sake wares which make sake taste differently. We are exhibiting pottery\, stainless and glass wares. These are made by Japanese artisans that are available here in NY! Please feel free to look at these pieces as well! \nOur Sake Wares\n\n\n\n\n\nFD STYLE \nSANSAKU\nThe SANSAKU is a cup created specifically for the enjoyment of sake. It comes in three different styles\, designed to accentuate and amplify the aroma\, texture\, flavor\, and aftertaste of sake. Because\, sake can be enjoyed at a wide range of temperatures\, we have carefully spun single sheets of stainless steel using our specially designed mold and spatula\, creating a vessel that can control how heat is transmitted to the mouth. Everyone has their own sense of taste\, and preferences can change according to mood\, physical condition and the social environment. The SANSAKU lets us enjoy our sake at different temperatures and occasion-perhaps you will be pleasantly surprised by a new flavor experience in your usual sake.\n\n\n\n\nYasumitsu Morito\nCeramic Sculptor\nYasumitsu Morito is a NYC based Japanese ceramic sculptor who works primarily in sculpture that extends from intimate gallery space to interactive public space. He has exhibited in various venues in New York\, including a Public Sculpture in Carl Schurz Park in NY\, solo show at the Bill Hodges Gallery\, RESOBOX Gallery\, and the Consulate General of Japan in New York. Morito’s work has been featured in various publications including the Wall Street Journal\, NY1\, the Smithsonian and the Consulate General of Japan. He is an elected member of National Sculpture Society and currently teaches Ceramic Sculpture at the Art Students League of NY.\n\n\n \n\nKIMOTO GLASS TOKYO\nEdo Kirico\nKimoto Glassware started in Asakusa 80 years ago\, since then\, they have kept to their principle of “Keeping traditional techniques and creating the future of glassware.” Since starting\, they have made millions of glasses with offers and requests. They are continuing as the major glassware company in Tokyo in developing and creating new aspects of glass in their downtown factories\, while working with craftsmen\, designers and creators. \nEdo Kiriko is a glass craft that has been handed down in Tokyo. It was fostered in the urban culture among the townspeople\, and during the Meiji era (mid-19th century)\, the craft introduced not only Western equipment and instruments\, but also their technique while preserving traditional techniques and has been passed down to the present time.\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:ORINIGIRI Workshop 3: Discover the Real Taste of Rice by Making ORINIGIRI!
DESCRIPTION:Let’s enjoy the natural taste of rice with “ORINIGIRI!” Craft it\, Squeeze it and Bite it!\nIn this workshop\, we will make onigiri with a fun origami paper called ORINIGIRI. Why not learn more about rice through a fun quiz and tasting?! This ORINIGIRI paper lets us create onigiri easier and more enjoyably! \n \nWhat kinds of rice can you try in this workshop?\nThere are more than 300 kinds of  Japanese rice in Japan. Every kind has different flavor\, texture and sweetness. In this ORINIGIRI workshop\, you can use two kinds of rice from Japan into ORINIGIRI. After trying them\, you might be able to tell the difference between the two rices. In addition\, we are also going to hold some quizzes and about the rice which will be a great opportunity for you to get to know about the ingredients you just ate! \nThis time\, we are collaborating with Toyo Rice which is famous for Kinme Mai\, the world’s first health-inspired Japanese-made\, rinse-free gourmet rice. We will be tasting two of their most significant brands. They are both high in nutrients but also keep a rich taste\, much like white rice. \nWhat is “ORINIGIRI?”\nORINIGIRI is a new type of art (and way of eating!) that combines the fun features of “Origami” and “Onigiri (Rice balls).” It’s easy to make and guests who participate in this workshop can enjoy the great and interesting onigiri experience! \n \n \nIngredients: \n\nRice\nSeaweed\nSalmon\nMentaiko (cod roe)\nKombu (kelp)\nPork\n\n*You can choose two of the ingredients from this list. \n*If you are allergic to a certain ingredient\, please let us know! We can substitute it for another ingredient but please inform us beforehand. \nWe’re looking forward to meeting and having a great time making ORINIGIRI with everyone! \nLearn more about ORINIGIRI from our first two workshops: \n\nORINIGIRI Workshop 1: A Combination of Origami and Onigiri\nORINIGIRI Workshop 2: Let’s Enjoy Creating and Cooking ORINIGIRI

SUMMARY:My Inner World / Sakhai’s Sekai
DESCRIPTION:Traveling from a young age and experiencing many cultures have been sources of inspiration in my work.  My paintings are influenced by places I have lived and traveled.  Additionally\, having a mother from Japan and father from Iran\, I find myself carrying both Eastern and Middle Eastern traditions.  In Japan\, I was inspired by the culture and scenery of my grandparent’s hometown\, Kashiwazaki\, a tiny village by the sea\, surrounded by vast mountains. My creative perception and talent was also nurtured by my Persian culture.  I have a strong sense of both cultures\, with the added influence of being American.  These many worlds intersect within me to create my own unique\, inner world. My paintings reflect the vast multitude of my personal ‘sekai’ and the complex landscapes of my past and present. \nMy abstraction reflects my inner world.
