SUMMARY:Wasanbon Wagashi: Japanese Pressed-Sugar Confectionery
DESCRIPTION:$65 / person \nAll materials included \n\nReserve Your Spot \n\nPLEASE NOTE: Registration closes 48 hours before the session. Cancellations made within 72 hours of the session are nonrefundable. \n  \nThe instructor: Yuki Sakura \nThis session steps away from nerikiri and into the world of wasanbon — a traditional Japanese sugar known for its delicate sweetness and fine\, smooth texture. Refined by hand in Shikoku through techniques passed down for generations\, wasanbon carries a light\, elegant flavor that reflects the quiet beauty of Japanese culinary culture. \nThis workshop offers more than the chance to taste wasanbon — it invites you to enjoy shaping it with your own hands. Pressing the sugar into a carved wooden mold\, packing it firmly\, and gently releasing it are simple movements\, yet each one becomes a moment of artistic expression. As you work\, you will discover the character of wasanbon and the subtle grace found in Japanese confectionery traditions. \nThere is no baking and no experience is needed — everything is prepared in advance\, so you can simply walk into the classroom and make sweets. \nAt the end of the class\, you’ll take home the wasanbon sweets you crafted with care. I hope you’ll share them with your family and friends\, recalling the moments from the workshop as you admire and enjoy the confections shaped by your own hands. \nFrom our September session \n\n \n \n \n \n The class in progress at our East Village studio.\n \n \n \n \n \n The sugar is packed firmly into the carved mold — no baking\, no cooking.\n \n \n \n \n \n A gentle tap releases each sweet.\n \n \n \n \n \n Simple hand movements become moments of artistic expression.\n \n \n \n \n \n Shells\, chrysanthemums and blossoms\, finished and ready to box.\n \n \n \n \n \n Everything you make goes home with you.\n \n \n\n\nLearn more about Wagashi class at RESOBOX \nView class page → \n

SUMMARY:Sumi-E: Japanese Ink Painting – Bamboo (Four Noble Ones)
DESCRIPTION:$60 / person \nAll materials included \n\nReserve Your Spot \n\nPLEASE NOTE: Registration closes 2 hours before the session. Cancellations made within 72 hours of the session are nonrefundable. \nThe theme for this class is Bamboo (take)\, one of the Four Noble Ones (shikunshi) along with the orchid\, chrysanthemum\, and plum blossom. For centuries these four plants have been the foundation of ink painting practice in East Asia\, and bamboo\, evergreen and able to bend in the wind without breaking\, is cherished as a symbol of resilience and integrity. SUMMARY:Mizuhiki: Japanese Decorative Knots – Woven Bracelet
DESCRIPTION:$70 / person \nAll materials included \n\nReserve Your Spot \n\nPLEASE NOTE: Registration closes 2 hours before the session. Cancellations made within 72 hours of the session are nonrefundable. \nFor our Mizuhiki class on November 22nd\, you will tie mizuhiki knots and weave them into a bracelet of your own design — to wear yourself\, or to give. \nMizuhiki has long been used in Japan to express connection\, celebration and heartfelt wishes\, most familiarly as the decorative cord that adorns gifts and envelopes for weddings and other important occasions. In this two-hour hands-on workshop\, you will experience that tradition in a contemporary\, wearable form. \nBecause mizuhiki cords are made from washi paper\, the finished bracelet is remarkably light — so comfortable you may forget you are wearing it — yet its delicate texture and refined look add an elegant touch to everyday style. \n \nChoose your own combination of deep autumn and cool winter tones: rich\, warm shades\, cool seasonal colors\, or an unexpected mix that is uniquely yours. \nWith the holiday season and winter gatherings approaching\, it also makes a thoughtful handmade gift. Choose colors with someone special in mind\, or make one for yourself to wear throughout the season. \nFirst-time participants are very welcome. \nNo experience is necessaryAll materials are includedTake home the bracelet you make \nTaught by Satoi Adams of Mizuhiki Global Links. Space is limited\, so early registration is recommended. \n\nLearn more about the Mizuhiki class at RESOBOX \nView class page

You’ll build each one in the same practice frame and take it apart to try the next. Finally\, you’ll use what you’ve learned to design your own arrangement inside the ichirin-zashi flower vase\, which has a clear acrylic back that doubles as a display stand. \nNo experience is necessary\nTake home the flower vase you designed \nAll kits are handcrafted by Ōminato Bunkichi Shoten\, a kumiko atelier in Niigata\, Japan. SUMMARY:Virtual Ikebana class - Misho Style
DESCRIPTION:$30 / person \nMaterials not included — please bring your own (see the list below) \n\nReserve Your Spot \n\nPLEASE NOTE: Registration closes 24 hours before the session. Cancellations made within 72 hours of the session are nonrefundable. \n  \nClasses will be held via the Zoom Video Conferencing application\, a private Zoom link will be sent to participants before the class begins. The classes will be held in Eastern Time. \n  \nA few things you will need before the class: \n1. You will need to find your own flowers. We are sorry that we are unable to deliver flowers to your home (try calling around; some local shops will deliver). But any flowers are OK! Just make sure to get 2-3 varieties\, and choose what you like. We don’t need a lot. \n2. You will need clippers or scissors that you don’t mind using to cut flower stems. \n3. A vase. If you don’t have a vase\, you can use a glass\, a coffee cup\, a cereal bowl\, or your choice of container\, as long as it has a little depth. You might even surprise yourself with how nice a non-traditional vase can look with a cute arrangement of flowers. \n*If you have your own Kenzan\, Flower Pin\, or Pin Frog\, you can use it. And if you want to buy one\, you can order on Amazon online. \nIn this class\, we will check each student’s tools and flowers\, then help you with tips on how to build up and create your own Ikebana arrangement. \n\nLearn more about Virtual Ikebana class at RESOBOX \nView class page →

Unlike the fire-breathing dragons of Western legend\, the dragon of Japan and its neighbors is a guardian spirit of water and sky\, associated with rain\, clouds\, and good fortune\, and it has been painted on temple ceilings and folding screens for centuries. Students will learn to capture the dragon’s energy with bold\, sweeping brushstrokes\, from its expressive face to its coiling body and claws\, exploring the full range of sumi-e from dark\, decisive lines to soft gradations of gray. \nAll students will start from the basics of ink-wash painting\, such as how to hold a brush. All materials such as ink\, brushes\, calligraphy paper\, etc. will be provided for the students. \nIn the classroom \n\nPast themes painted in this class \n\n  \n\nLearn more about Sumi-E class at RESOBOX \nView class page → \n
