SUMMARY:Amigurumi For Everyone: Crochet an Endangered Orangutan
DESCRIPTION:A renowned Amigurumi (crochet doll) artist\, Mitsue\, is visiting RESOBOX during the 5th annual World Amigurumi Exhibition\, Threatened Threads: Protect our Endangered Amigurumi! As this year’s theme revolve around the topic of endangered species and spreading awareness for those that are threatened\, Mitsue has decided to hold a workshop to teach crocheters of all ages and levels how to make an endangered orangutan. This class is meant for everyone\, whether you have crocheted before or not! All supplies will be provided. \nWhy make Orangutan Amigurumi?\nOrangutans fall under the “Endangered Species” category which is the theme for this year’s World Amigurumi Exhibition. Four years ago\, when crocheting an orangutan\, Mitsue studied various topics into ecology and animal habitats inspired by her creation. Since then\, she has created pieces with the message of wildlife protection and environmental conservation incorporated in them. \nMitsue hopes participants will gain interest in orangutans and other endangered species through this workshop. In addition\, “Orang Fujita” will also be a special guest from Japan. Let’s all be friends!\n \nWhat kind of yarn will we be using?\nIn Japan\, the 11-colored Puppy yarn called “Queen Anny” is very popular\, along with the rare\, high-end Mondo Fil yarn brand. We will try crocheting with both yarns to make orangutan amigurumi! (Currently\, there is no store selling the Puppy yarn in the United States. However\, you may order the yarn from Puppy’s online store. This workshop will be a rare opportunity for participants to try crocheting with Puppy yarn!) \nIs this workshop suitable for beginners?\nIt is recommended that participants know the basics of crocheting (such as the single crochet stitch and the magic ring method)\, but those who haven’t trying crocheting are welcome as well. Beginners can learn to first make the Japanese national flower motif\, a sakura (cherry blossom)! Though Mitsue doesn’t have much confidence in her English\, she has taught many students outside of Japan before so she hopes many participants will join the workshop. \nDo I need to bring anything?\nNo need to bring any materials to this workshop! We will be using crochet hooks from Tulip Co.\, Ltd. of Japan in US sizes. This workshop does not require participants to bring any crochet hooks or yarn\, so please feel free to drop by! \n  \nPlease feel free to also drop by our current exhibition\, World Amigurumi Exhibition Vol. 5 Threatened Threads: Protect our Endangered Amigurumi! happening now until March 31\, 2020!

SUMMARY:Surpassing Boundaries: The Kimono Jacket
DESCRIPTION:Have you ever heard of the Japanese kimono? It is a traditional Japanese garment\, and the national dress of Japan. Generally T-shaped\, the kimono is wrapped from back to front and is constructed primarily of rectangular pieces of fabric with little tailoring as it sits in a flattering flat way on the body. \nAlthough still worn today in modern Japan\, artists from all over the world are re-imagining the kimono as pieces of art to suit the current times. \nNow\, we are presenting the Kimono Jacket\, made of materials bought here in local New York stores and inspired by New York outerwear. Created by aspiring Japanese designer Kaho Iwaki\, the Kimono Jacket is dressed in the traditional kimono shape with its big square sleeves and distinctive collar. The jacket is meant to keep the wearer both warm and fashionable\, while expressing the unique shape of the Japanese kimono. \nParticipants are invited to try on the original Kimono Jacket at our January 11th event. We will also offer free photoshoot options if participants are interested!

SUMMARY:Japanese Wine Tasting: Discover Koshu
DESCRIPTION:Japan may be better known for its sake or whisky\, but a wine called Koshu is getting popular among wine lovers brimming with curiosity. \nWhat is Koshu?\n\nKoshu is the best known type of grape in Japan and has been grown for more than 1000 years.  Wine made from Koshu is known for crisp acidity\, strong minerality and restrained flavors of white peach and citrus. It’s on the road to becoming the first Asian wine to gain international recognition. As a result\, one of the bottles has been winning the Gold Award for a consecutive six years in the Decanter World Wine Awards. \nKoshu is a must-try for fans of delicate wines such as Sancerre and Saumur Blanc\, but unlike the others\, Koshu is very much its own grape. In addition\, if you’re searching for the perfect partner for raw-fish dishes such as Sushi\, join this event and explore all the possibilities! \nIn this event\, you will learn the history of Koshu and the wine made from it\, and four different  Japanese wineries: Chateau Mercian\, Kisvin Winery and Katsunuma Jyozo. \n**Please note that this event is for industry only guests and serious business attendees.** \nWine List\n\n\n\n\nYamanashi Koshu 2017 from Château Mercian \n\nThis dry white wine offers a rich mid-palate texture with umami. Koshu\, a native Japanese grape variety that has been growing for centuries\, is fermented and aged on the lees (sur lie) till the bottling.\n\n\n\nKISVIN KOSHU 2016 from Kisvin Winery \nElegant\, crisp and aromatic\, this wine has sour taste\, no bitterness and light citrus aromas of yuzu (Japanese lime)\, jasmine and white peach.\n\n\n\nArugano Bisque from Katsunuma Jyozo \nDistinctive\, mineralic\, crisp clean palate with nice acidity. Precise and well balanced with real personality\, and a hint of sweetness to the fruit. Quite Sauvignon-like.\n\n\n\nAruga Branca Brilahante from Katsunuma Jyozo \nEach bottle of this wine has carbon dioxide\, which is produced by the fermentation of the grapes\, and sealed inside the bottle.  Please enjoy the elegant and refreshing flavor of Koshu grapes. Diamond-like Sparkling White Aruga. \n
