DESCRIPTION:In accordance with New York City regulations\, proof of COVID-19 vaccination will be required for all in-person events until further notice. \n\nFoil is often used in “Rinpa” paintings\, and as a Japanese painting culture\, it is mainly used in drawing flowers with ink. \nWhat is Rinpa?\nRinpa is a movement of painting and aesthetic design that emerged in Japan during the Edo period (1615–1868). Kyoto-based artists Tawaraya Sōtatsu (fl. early 17th century) and Honami Kōetsu (1558–1637) are acknowledged as the predecessors of this artistic tradition\, one that harkens back to the court paintings and calligraphic works of the Heian period (794–1185). Rinpa is characterized as a revitalization of Yamato-e\, Japanese-style painting developed in the 9th century characterized by a rich palette of colors\, softly contoured landscapes\, emphasis on themes drawn from poetry\, and primarily secular subject matter.\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n[Let’s draw flowers using the Japanese painting “Rinpa” technique. ] \nLet’s draw on a canvas with silver foil using ink and pigment.\nFoil is often used in “Rinpa” paintings\, and as a Japanese painting culture\, it mainly draws flowers with ink. \n1. DESCRIPTION:Four young artist originally from Japan have decided to get together and express their thoughts living in foreign country through their art pieces. \nThe role of artist is to deliver messages to the audience with artistic languages. The question for the artist is how to deliver the message in an interesting way. \nCarrier pigeon\, the title of this exhibition\, was once used as a medium to deliver messages. The artists will deliver our messages through the medium of painting.\nThe artists participating in this exhibition are all Japanese. DESCRIPTION:Beni Haruka is one of the most popular varieties of Japanese sticky sweet potato\, or Satsumaimo. This is due to its soft texture and outstanding natural sweetness\, which is said to have sparked the baked sweet potato boom in Japan.We are collaborating with a Satsumaimo farmer\, Minamihashi Shoji in Kanoya City in Kagoshima Prefecture and just got their “Premium Beni Haruka” which is making its New York City debut.\n\n  \nTo introduce this wonderful sweet potato to New Yorkers\, we are holding a small educational and tasting event of the Beni Haruka together with our chef\, Keiko Tanaka on October 24th. She will present the characteristics of Japanese Satsumaimo and tips on cooking with it\, as well as specifically our Beni Haruka\, “Imono Sora”\, which received “Premium” certification from the city\, and which you will get the chance to taste during this event.There are only ten seats available\, so don’t miss this fantastic opportunity!\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n \n
