Workshop Overview
Hakata dolls are one of the most traditional clay dolls in Japan. They are famous for their beautiful shape and brilliant colors. Hakata dolls were created during the 17th century, produced by using unglazed clay. During the time, they were used as offerings to Buddhist temples or gifts to the ruler of Hakata. Now, they are seen as works of art with various artistic theories and techniques surrounding them.
In this workshop participants will be able to choose one of either dog ($25) or a typical girl dolls ($35) to create. The patterns are made by the traditional craftsman, Mr. Shoji Kajihara, with high quality clay. Participants will be taught about the basic skills of painting dolls and how to color them to their liking.
