Join us for an after-school Gundam Plastic Model (Gunpla) workshop where children dive into the exciting world of model building! In this hands-on program, students in grades 4–8 learn how to build, paint, and customize their own Gunpla models. Kits, tools, paints, and all required materials are provided.
Build more than models
In this workshop, students in grades 4–8 don’t just enjoy building—they strengthen spatial reasoning, basic math and geometry, and logical problem-solving while bringing 3D designs to life. Guided by an experienced instructor, kids learn to plan, measure, follow precise steps, and think creatively as they assemble, paint, and customize their own kits. Every session blends hands-on making with STEM-aligned skills in a fun, supportive studio. All tools and materials are provided.
What is Gunpla?
Gunpla are plastic model kits based on the iconic mecha characters and machinery from the beloved Gundam anime series. Originating in Japan in the 1980s, Gunpla quickly gained popularity and spread globally throughout the 1990s. Today, hundreds of thousands of enthusiasts worldwide enjoy the rewarding hobby of building these intricate models.
What is Gundam?
Gundam is a Japanese science fiction media franchise created by Yoshiyuki Tomino and Hajime Yatate. It primarily revolves around giant robots, or “Mobile Suits,” that are piloted by humans. The series is renowned for its compelling storylines, exploration of complex themes such as war, peace, and human nature, and its iconic mechanical designs. Since its debut in 1979, Gundam has expanded into numerous anime series, films, manga, video games, and, of course, the popular Gunpla model kits.
Skills Developed
Building Gunpla is more than just a fun activity; it’s a fantastic way for children to develop a variety of valuable skills, including:

About the Instructor

Keisuke Inoue
Keisuke Inoue is the enthusiastic instructor behind the Gunpla After School program, which he founded in Brooklyn in 2024. A native of Japan, Keisuke's passion for Gunpla began over 40 years ago at the age of 8. Beyond his deep personal enjoyment of the hobby, Keisuke holds a Ph.D. in Information Science with a specialization in AI. He firmly believes that Gunpla is more than just a fun and creative activity; it's a powerful tool for fostering STEM interest and cultivating essential skills like focus and perseverance – qualities crucial for learning any subject. He's excited to share his expertise and passion with young builders, connecting the tactile joy of model building with foundational learning.

Jorege Bishop Lopez
Bronx native, Jorge, is a long creative and gunpla enthusiast. Having started building in the earltly 2000's, he has over 100 model kits from series such as Gundam, Dragon Ball Z, Transformers and more. His favorite kit is the MG Jesta and the Astray frame series. As an educator. Jorge has introduced Lego and Gunpla to students across NYC, and believes it is a great way to relieve stress from a long day.

Rex Danielle
Rex Danielle Francisco is the assistant instructor from Queens, New York. Although He is relatively new to the hobby, having started in February of 2024, he has already gone through 40 model kits and has garnered a tremendous amount of experience with building, and hopes to get even better with time while sharing his experience with fellow instructors and students. His favorite kit is the RG God Gundam, and he loves taking on intricate builds. With an aspiration for photography, he hopes to be able to capture the joy of building kits through photos, as well.
