ORINIGIRI (a mix between Onigiri and Origami) is now developing and expanding worldwide!

As you may know, onigiri is known as traditional Japanese cuisine common in every Japanese household. Nowadays, Onigiri is making progress by becoming more world widely known, including in America! As so, we decided to fuse ORINIGIRI, a Japanese concept with American ingredients! ORINIGIRI can be made easily, tasty and variously by blending different ingredients with white Japanese rice. If you like usual American staples such as roast pork, smoke salmon, and cheese, you can make tasty and even photogenic ORINIGIRI easily by blending these familiar foods. Let’s create our own USA versions of “ORINIGIRI!”

What is “ORINIGIRI?”

ORINIGIRI is a new type of art (and way of eating!) that combines the fun features of “Origami” and “Onigiri (Rice balls).” It’s easy to make and guests who participate in this workshop can enjoy the great and interesting onigiri experience!

The Artist Talk organized in conjunction with Yasue Maetake’s exhibition will include guest speaker, Nataša Prljević, artist and co-founder of HEKLER, an interdisciplinary collaborative platform that critically examines hospitality and conflict. Prljević is currently the Executive and Curatorial Assistant at Residency Unlimited (RU).

Together they will discuss the creative mechanisms behind Maetake’s material-oriented practice, her encounters with extrapolations from natural and built environments, and their organic and anthropomorphic translation in Maetake’s sculptures and installations. These processes will be addressed through an examination of the boundary between materials’ agency to shape itself and the artist’s inherent need to be in control over the outcome. Can the boundary even be defined? How does the physical intervention between materials become an ongoing document of penetrating forces between different realms of creation and being?

RSVP at info@reso203.com

Have you ever tried Mochi rice?

Do you know Mochi rice is? It is a sweet, sticky rice that is often used in Japan. It is often used for making rice cake (mochi in Japanese), but many people do not know the process of how to make or eat mochi!

In Japan, we use mochi rice in many ways, especially when celebrating a cultural event. Other than rice cake, mochi is used in many other foods as well! In this workshop we would like to introduce a few treats made of mochi rice and try to make these Japanese sweets as well! Mochi has many health benefits and is delicious to eat, too! We guarantee you’ll enjoy making this delicious treat and even adding it to your daily diet. Try discovering the charm of mochi rice!

It’s contemporary. It’s evocative. It’s handmade, by you! Simply by folding a sheet of paper (with a little gluing), you can make a lamp shade. It becomes a lamp when you add light, which we will with a string of LED lights to fill inside and/or wrap around.

Have you heard of “ORINIGIRI?”

ORINIGIRI is a new type of art (and way of eating!) that combines the fun features of “Origami” and “Onigiri (Rice balls).” Tomoo Nitta, a first-class Japanese qualified architect, invented ORINIGIRI when he was in the process of designing a building. He discovered that ORINIGIRI was a fun way to help children (recommended for ages 4 and up) cultivate their mathematical and artistic senses. This workshop will show both children and adults how to create their own ORINIGIRI while having fun with a special ORINIGIRI dance. We hope to not only teach people about ORINIGIRI but also to have them become interested and help spread ORINIGIRI in their own way. Becoming a member of our family has no obligation or fee but is a great way to express yourself through ORINIGIRI as an interesting and fun new art form!

Don’t miss out on this exciting and creative ORINIGIRI-making and informative session! All ingredients and supplies will be prepared by the organizer. If you would like to change the flavor of your ORINIGIRI, please feel free to bring your own favorite onigiri ingredients.

Learn more about ORINIGIRI by watching the video below!
