Beni Haruka is one of the most popular varieties of Japanese sticky sweet potato, or Satsumaimo. This is due to its soft texture and outstanding natural sweetness, which is said to have sparked the baked sweet potato boom in Japan. We are collaborating with a Satsumaimo farmer, Minamihashi Shoji in Kanoya City in Kagoshima Prefecture and just got their “Premium Beni Haruka” which is making its New York City debut.
To introduce this wonderful sweet potato to New Yorkers, we are holding a small educational and tasting event of the Beni Haruka together with our chef, Keiko Tanaka on October 24th. She will present the characteristics of Japanese Satsumaimo and tips on cooking with it, as well as specifically our Beni Haruka, “Imono Sora”, which received “Premium” certification from the city, and which you will get the chance to taste during this event. There are only ten seats available, so don’t miss this fantastic opportunity!
