Event Overview
RESOBOX wants you to join us for an entertaining escape into the multidimensional world of art. This will be a LIVE event where you will experience a Japanese influence as artists transform their works in a creative atmosphere. Local artists will be using their talents to paint on everyday items in a way that will allow us to see them differently.
As they work there will be a DJ performing. In addition there will be live vocal performances and entertaining dance. This simultaneous combination is intended to provide art that will be experienced by all of your senses.
About the Artists
Richard Ford
Painter
Richard Ford III is a native son of the culturally rich city of Detroit, MI. It was there he developed his artistic voice through graffiti, weaving in elements of his growing love of manga and anime. He obtained his BFA in illustration at Columbia College (Chicago), complementing his studies with Japanese history and language.
Richard’s works are best described as an amalgamation of culture, influences, experiences and passions. Stylistically drawn to the aesthetics of anime and manga, he compliments his illustrations with his background of street art, giving his characters attitude, yet a hint of cuteness that reflects strongly his character and personality.
Richard is a brand visual engagement artist at Mezco Toyz in New York City. He also follows his passion through freelancing with a love of brand direction, creating album concept art, and character development and ideation.
Kumi Hirose
Painter
Kumi is from Tokushima, Japan. Kumi's perspective of art is to express human events through painting the emotions, thoughts, distress, anger, sadness and pleasure happening around her by deforming and restricting the chaotic world.
Kumi's works of art are complex and mystical in a way. They incorporate her everyday experiences dreams, imagination and memories. To Kumi, painting can be an escape from the realities and stress of everyday life.
Kumi’s influences are the people around her, friends, family and even acquaintances of all types. Everyday interaction with others is very important to her because that is where she gets her inspiration. What she incorporates into her vision ranges from the ordinary to the shocking.
Riku Iwanami
Painter
Riku is from Yamanashi, Japan. He is currently a student at Rockland Community College. He is excited to have the opportunity to express his talent in New York City.
Kohei Hattori
DJ
Kohei is a singer from Tokyo, Japan. He has been a finalist at the 2016 and 2017 McDonald’s Gospelfest events and will be performing in Gospelfest 2018. Kohei has been featured on Fox TV’s Steve Harvey Show and M-On TV with Japanese recording artist “The RAMPAGE”. He has hosted celebrity events and opened for artists such as Wu Tang Clan(Raekwon), Lil Mama, Lyfe Jennings, and Case.
Kohei has performed at the Apollo Theater, Carnegie Hall, the Prudential Center, Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival 2017, Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington, DC and the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. He is the official MC at Japan Fes, the biggest Japanese street fare on the East coast, for 2017 and 2018.
Kohei was commended as a United Nations International Ambassador-Singer for his efforts encouraging cultural exchanges between Japan and the United States.
He will be releasing his new single “POWER TO THE PEOPLE” in 2018.
Mio Yamasaki
Dancer
Mio has been performing for 18 years. Her style is a combination of Hip-hop and Japanese traditional dance (Nihon Buyo and Noh). She has performed her unique dances in both Japan and the US (New York).
Mio has been featured at a diverse selection of events at shrines and temples, fashion shows, charity events, sessions with bands and as a back-up dancer for vocal artists. She also has performed on TVCM as a dancer when she was in Japan.
Sean Flight
Singer
Sean is New York City R&B/Pop/Soul singer and songwriter and is known as an innovative performing artist. From urban New York inner-city beginnings, Sean has performed on stages in L.A, Miami, Switzerland and Japan.
Sean has molded himself into a truly stand-out, versatile artist. He has captivated audiences across the Northeast with outstanding solo performances. In New York City he has graced the stages of Tammany, Crash Mansion, Drom, Santos Party House, S.O.B.'s, Sullivan Halls, Chelsea Hudson yacht's and a number of colleges. He "wowed" audiences at the Bowery Poetry Club and provided the opening act performances for the famous Fabulous and Jeremiah.
Today he is one of Comcast’s Big E event’s most requested performers and he will be headed to Japan. Sean’s passion, talent and heart felt sound touch listeners of all demographics. With his heights set high, Sean is on a journey to becoming the next outstanding figure in the R&B/Pop/Soul world and aims to entertain audiences worldwide.
Yukino Kikuta
Singer
Yukino Kikuta is a New York based singer and musical actress originally from Tokyo, Japan.
Yukino has performed on many stages around NYC. She was also a finalist in McDonald’s Gospelfest 2017 at the Prudential Center as a female soloist. Yukino will be performing in McDonald’s Gospelfest 2018 this coming May 12th at the Newark Symphony Hall.
