On October 26th, 2024, a wagashi class was held at RESOBOX under the guidance of instructor Mari Matsuo, titled “Autumn Splendor: Wagashi Meets Fukui Crafts.” Participants created four beautiful pieces of wagashi, or Japanese sweets, inspired by the vibrant colors of autumn—two varieties of nerikiri wagashi and two sculpted pieces featuring chrysanthemum motifs.

As a special feature of this event, each participant had the opportunity to select and purchase a handcrafted artisanal piece from Fukui Prefecture, including ceramic plates by Echizen Ceramica and lacquerware plates by Echizen Urushi. After making the wagashi, students were then shown how to use their new pieces to display the fruits of their labor.
At the end of the class, representatives from U.S. distributors provided explanations about each craft item, giving participants a deeper appreciation of the charm and value of the pieces they selected.
Looking ahead, plans are underway to further promote the beauty of Japanese crafts through sales events across New York and various other projects.
