We at RESOBOX are excited to officially launch our new class on Kimekomi doll making, a traditional Japanese craft. The idea for this class was inspired by a visit to the Ningyo Gakuin (Doll Academy) in Japan, operated by our client Kyugetsu, a renowned maker of traditional Japanese dolls.
During the visit, we were deeply inspired by the artistry and cultural significance of Kimekomi dolls and felt a strong desire to offer people in the U.S. an opportunity to experience this beautiful tradition firsthand. That passion led to the creation of this class, with the hope that participants could connect with Japanese culture by crafting something with their own hands.
For the first session, participants were given the choice between two motifs: a “Temari” (decorative ball) and a “Frog.” Thanks to the clear and thoughtful guidance from our instructor, Keiko Fukuda, all attendees were able to complete their unique pieces within the 90-minute session.
In our upcoming classes, we’ll be introducing new options, including a Sparrow and a Dog, giving participants more motifs to choose from. We also plan to continue evolving the class with fresh designs and creative approaches, so we can share the charm of Kimekomi dolls with even more people.
We warmly welcome anyone interested in traditional Japanese culture and hands-on creativity to join us!
