From November 28th to January 5th, RESOBOX hosted the “Japanese Winter Market” at Tangram, a mixed-use complex in Flushing, Queens. This market featured a curated selection of Japanese products.
The food lineup included premium fruits from Ikigai Fruits, such as Tochiaika strawberries from Tochigi, Kotoka strawberries from Nara, Crown Melon from Shizuoka, and Souju pears from Niigata. We also offered Japanese street foods like takoyaki, roasted Beni Haruka sweet potatoes from Kagoshima, and artisanal cheesecake tarts made with Japanese fruits from the brand Miyomacchi Sweets.
In addition, we showcased handcrafted goods from artisans we collaborate with. These included Kimekomi dolls from Kyugetsu, lacquerware bowls and plates crafted by lacquer artists from Fukui, and unique tatami wallets from Oda Tatami Shop in Nara. In total, the catalog featured more than fifty items that could not be found for sale anywhere else in New York.
We also partnered with the Japanese Artist Pop-up Shop, offering a wide range of playful, holiday-ready items from a number of Japanese accessory brands. These included miniature food accessories, crocheted flower dolls (amigurumi), anime-inspired art, and more.
The event was a great success and a perfect match for the festive holiday season.
We plan to continue organizing pop-up shops throughout New York in collaboration with various venues to promote Japanese products. If you’re a maker interested in joining future events, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us!
